Viltrox has officially become the tenth member of the L‑Mount Alliance — a milestone announced by Leica on 1st September 2025. The alliance, originally revealed at Photokina in 2018, includes Leica, Sigma and Panasonic among its founding members, and now extends to DJI, ASTRODESIGN, Samyang, Blackmagic Design, SIRUI and Ernst Leitz Wetzlar.

From Leica’s perspective, the L‑Mount represents a future‑proof, reliable, and flexible bayonet lens mount system. It supports a growing ecosystem of over twenty cameras and more than 120 compatible lenses, all operable across the alliance brands without the need for adapters or functional compromise.

Valentino Di Leonardo of Leica emphasises the alliance’s role in innovation and openness, highlighting how Viltrox, with its notable lens‑making expertise, adds fresh impetus to the system. The collaboration promises a more comprehensive, flexible approach for professionals in photography and videography.

Similarly, Viltrox CEO DAI JINHUI (Daniel Dai) welcomes the move as a means to broaden the system’s appeal. By delivering high‑quality and accessible lenses, Viltrox enhances the L‑Mount ecosystem with options that cater to enthusiasts and seasoned professionals alike.

The L‑Mount Advantage

With a 51.6 mm diameter and a 20 mm register, the L‑Mount supports both full‑frame and APS‑C format mirrorless camera systems while allowing for compact lens designs that are particularly advantageous for wide‑angle optics.

The mount is constructed from wear‑resistant stainless steel and features four flange segments, the mount ensures robust, accurate alignment under intense usage.

The standardised contact strip enables reliable communication and the option for firmware updates — ensuring lenses remain responsive as technologies evolve.

Hands‑On Impression

I was very impressed with the Viltrox AF 85 mm F1.4 Pro FE lens for Sony mirrorless cameras when I reviewed it recently. The lens delivers remarkable sharpness, a beautifully bokeh and a responsive autofocus — qualities that have helped build Viltrox’s reputation for combining optical excellence and value.

Given this, it is particularly exciting to know that Viltrox will now be developing future lenses to the L‑Mount standard. The addition promises to extend these qualities across a broader range of camera systems, giving photographers, videographers and content creators more choice and flexibility.
