Hasselblad X2D II 100C and XCD 2.8–4/35–100E Zoom Lens Announced
Hasselblad has launched its latest medium‑format system, the X2D II 100C, along with the new XCD 2.8–4/35–100E standard zoom lens. The camera incorporates continuous autofocus (AF) powered by deep‑learning, expanded phase detection AF coverage from 294 to 425 zones, LiDAR‑assisted focusing and an AF illuminator that doubles as a self‑timer indicator. According to Hasselblad, it promises more responsive focusing in varied lighting conditions.
For the first time on a Hasselblad, the X2D II 100C supports true end‑to‑end HDR via the HNCS HDR system. It processes HDR images directly in‑camera, as HDR HEIF or Ultra HDR JPEG, and displays them on a new 3.6‑inch OLED touchscreen offering up to 1400 nit peak brightness—75 per cent brighter than its predecessor. With Phocus Mobile 2, users can edit HDR images or apply HNCS HDR processing to raw files and share optimised content on HDR‑capable platforms.
The 100‑megapixel BSI CMOS sensor captures approximately 281 trillion colours with 16‑bit depth, supports a native ISO of 50 and extends dynamic range to 15.3 stops. It is paired with a 5‑axis, 10‑stop in‑body stabilisation system, enabling long handheld exposures. The camera includes 1 TB of internal SSD and a CFexpress Type B slot for flexible storage. It also features a lighter graphite-grey matte finish, redesigned ergonomic grip, a tilting 3.6‑inch OLED screen and a 5‑direction joystick plus eight custom buttons for personalised control.
The accompanying XCD 2.8–4/35–100E lens covers approximately 28–76 mm equivalent, with a bright f/2.8–4 aperture. Its advanced optical design—including aspherical and ED elements—matches Hasselblad’s prime‑lens image quality. The fastest stepping motor in the XCD range allows smooth autofocus, paired with the camera’s AF‑C system. Its integrated leaf shutter supports full‑sync flash from 1/4000 sec to 68 minutes. Compact yet robust, the lens measures 138 mm, weighs 894 g, and features intuitive control rings.
Hasselblad also offers the Vandra camera backpack (20 L), inspired by Sweden’s ‘Freedom to Roam’, and 86 mm UV, ND8, and CPL filters designed for use with the new zoom lens.
