Sigma announces 200mm F2 DG OS | Sports and 12mm F1.4 DC | Contemporary
Sigma has announced two new prime lenses designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. The new Sigma 200mm F2 DG OS | Sports is a full-frame telephoto lens with a fast aperture, while the Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC | Contemporary is a wide-angle option for crop-sensor cameras.
The Sigma 200mm F2 DG OS | Sports lens is the first of its kind, offering a 200mm focal length with a bright F2 maximum aperture for full-frame mirrorless cameras with the Sony FE or L-mount. Its optical construction includes 19 elements in 14 groups, with two FLD and two SLD elements to reduce chromatic aberrations. Sigma claims the lens delivers sharp results from edge to edge, even at wide-open aperture. This makes it especially useful for portrait photography and fast-moving indoor sports, thanks to its compression effect and smooth background blur.
The lens’ autofocus is driven by Sigma's HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor, which enables fast and precise focusing. The lens also includes optical stabilisation with an OS2 algorithm, rated up to 6.5 stops of compensation. Mode 1 is for general photography, while Mode 2 supports panning shots. Its durable Sports-line build features a dust- and splash-resistant structure, and thermal insulation paint helps it stay cool in the sun. Other features include three AFL (autofocus lock) buttons, a custom mode switch, and a newly designed tripod socket that also functions as a handle.
Meanwhile, the Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC | Contemporary lens brings an ultra-wide-angle perspective to APS-C format mirrorless cameras from Sony, Fujifilm and Canon. With a 12mm focal length (equivalent to 18mm or 19mm depending on the mount), it offers a broad field of view and bright aperture for low-light photography, landscapes, and vlogging. The optical formula consists of 14 elements in 12 groups, including two SLD and three aspherical elements to reduce distortion and maintain sharpness across the frame.
Despite its wide aperture and expansive view, the 12mm F1.4 is compact and lightweight at just 225g. It also features a responsive stepping motor for smooth autofocus and minimal focus breathing, which is particularly helpful for video work. The lens includes a manual aperture ring (or control ring on the Canon RF mount) and a dust- and splash-resistant design with a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element.
