Fujifilm XF 23mm F2.8 R WR lens Price, Availability Announced
Fujifilm has announced its latest addition to its XF lens series for its APS-C format cameras. The XF23mm F2.8 R WR is a compact and lightweight lens that measures only 23mm in length and weighs just 90g. With a focal length equivalent to 35mm in full frame terms, it is aimed at photographers looking for a discreet, everyday option for a wide range of subjects. However, 35mm is a classic focal length for street photography.
The new lens has been designed to work seamlessly with Fujifilm’s high-resolution 40.2MP X Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor. It features an optical construction of eight elements arranged in six groups, including two aspherical lenses to minimise aberrations. This ensures high image quality across the frame, from the centre to the edges.
According to Fujifilm, the XF23 mm F2.8 R WR is made using the latest processing technology to enable it to be optically compact. Consequently, the new lens has a total length of only 23 mm, which is the same as XF 27mm F2.8, the thinnest XF lens, and it weighs just 90 g, so it's both compact and lightweight. In addition, the exterior has been made thinner by using more metal components to give it strength without thickness.
Its eleven-blade aperture is designed to deliver smooth, circular bokeh, giving images depth and attractive softness to out of focus areas. The lens focuses as close as 20cm, making it suitable for photographing small objects, environmental portraits and scenes where space is limited, such as on a table or in a narrow room.
The autofocus is driven by a powerful DC motor and uses a full group focusing system to maintain quality across the focus range. The lens is also designed with usability in mind, featuring separate and easily accessible rings to control the aperture and manual focus.
The lens barrel is built from metal components and is sealed at nine points to guard against dust and moisture. It remains operational in temperatures as low as minus ten degrees Celsius, making it suitable for use in a variety of outdoor conditions.
Fujifilm XF23mm F2.8 R WR Price and Availability
The Fujifilm XF23mm F2.8 R WR will be available from August 2025. It will be offered initially as part of a kit with the new X E5 digital camera for £1549. The lens will also be available to purchase separately later in the year, likely November, priced at £399 or €449. It will come in a choice of silver or black finishes.
