How did you get into photography?

I was taking pictures when I was at school. I had a very simple film camera at that time and my photography was limited to some holiday snapshots. When I became 30 years old, my parents gave me a present - my first DSLR camera. I started using this camera on different occasions, however, I was not paying attention to camera settings and was mainly using an automatic mode.

My serious photographic journey started in 2020 during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when travelling and even going to work became suddenly impossible. I started spending much more time with my camera in nature, photographing the fauna and flora of Luxembourg. Photographing nature became my biggest passion and now I cannot imagine my weekend and holidays without a camera in the natural world.

Do you have any photographic qualifications or accolades?

The most exciting moment was to receive a silver medal at the National photography competition of FLPA (Artistic Photography Association of Luxembourg) in 2025. I have also won a second place in the nature photography competition organised by Belgian photography clubs in 2023 and have become a finalist of the Nature Biennale organised by the International photography competition of FIAP (International artistic photography association) in 2024.

What's the first photograph you remember seeing or shooting?

That was most probably some ordinary family shots.

What do you love about photography?

Photography helps me to escape from work-related stress, express my creativity and discover the amazing natural world of our planet. It is a very good way to raise awareness and help preserve our nature.

What do you wish you'd learned about photography earlier?

I wish I started learning about camera settings much earlier.

Where is your favourite place for photography?

I cannot say I have a favourite place for photography. I try different locations as much as I can.

Do you have a favourite photographic technique?

That would be low-angle photography, most probably.

Can you briefly outline your approach to image processing?

I mainly use Lightroom for image processing. I start with minor adjustments of the whole picture (highlights, shadows, contrast etc.) and then go for local adjustments. Most of the time, I use masks for objects and background and do some basic sharpening. Lightroom has improved a lot and I almost stopped using Photoshop for that reason. However, if I want to focus stack a picture, I do that in Photoshop (this option does not exist in Lightroom).

What's your favourite lens?

Nikon Nikkor Z 180-600 mm.

Do you have a favourite accessory?

My telephoto lens.

Have you found the perfect camera bag yet?

Not yet. Actually, I would like to buy a new camera bag as the current one is not that comfortable for my back.

Which photographers have influenced or inspired you, and how or why?

Bence Mate definitely. I like his approach of taking pictures and his perseverance of spending hours in a photography hide. This year I have visited his photography hides in Hungary and even met him personally. After this trip, I started concentrating on animal behaviour while taking pictures and paying more attention to the environment in which a certain animal lives. Not an easy task, I must confess.

I would also like to mention a Lithuanian traveller, photographer and author Egle Aukstakalnyte-Hansen. I have read some of her travel books and was very inspired by her photography story. I would love to meet her in person one day

Please recommend 2 or 3 female photographers to follow on Instagram.

I’m not on Instagram.

Is there a camera, lens or accessory that you don't have yet but you'd like to buy at some point?

That would be a portable photography hide.

Is there a genre of photography that you love but that you haven't tried yet?

Astrophotography is the genre of photography I would definitely like to improve! I have tried it, but my skills in this type of photography are very minimal.

What's your proudest photographic moment?

My proudest photographic moment was to take my first wildlife photo from a very simple photography hide. That was a photo of a roe deer and I took it camouflaged at the forest edge near a field.

If you could have one superpower that could help you with photography, what would it be?

I simply wish I had more time for photography.

Your favourite baked goods are?

My mother's curd cake or a warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born in Vilnius (Lithuania) and I have been living in Luxembourg for 8 years. I have a legal background, but I started to realise that nature photography is inspiring me more than my current work . What I really like about Luxembourg is that even though the country is small, it is very green and offers a lot of photogenic places for a nature photographer. For several years, I have been a member of LNF (Luxembourgish Nature Photographers Association) and CIEL (EU Institutions Photographers Association) and I enjoy discussions with fellow photographers.
