Nikon Zf Gets Bird Detection and Imaging Cloud in Firmware Update
Nikon has announced the release of firmware version 2.00 for the Nikon Zf, its full-frame mirrorless camera with classic or retro styling. The update introduces several new features borrowed from the flagship Nikon Z9 and the recently launched Z6III.
Among the highlights is support for Nikon Imaging Cloud. This service enables automatic image transfers to selected third-party cloud storage platforms, along with automated firmware updates and access to a range of Nikon’s downloadable 'Imaging Recipes', which offer creative shooting settings.
Firmware 2.00 also adds a bird-specific subject detection option to the Zf’s autofocus system. Designed to improve the camera’s ability to detect and track birds in flight or perched, it builds on the existing subject detection system with a more targeted approach for bird photography.
Nikon has also added its Hi-Res Zoom function, also seen in the Nikon Z5II and Z50. This allows users to zoom in digitally while shooting video, offering additional flexibility when framing footage without the need to change lenses.
For photographers who enjoy using manual-focus lenses, especially vintage glass or Lensbaby lenses, Nikon has added a few usability tweaks. It’s now possible to exit the magnified focus assist view by half-pressing the shutter button – a small change that should make a noticeable difference when shooting. Users can also opt to record the aperture value used during shooting with lenses that don’t communicate electronically with the camera.
