Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC Art Price, Specs, Availability Confirmed
Sigma has announced the 17-40mm F1.8 DC Art, a wide-aperture standard zoom lens designed exclusively for APS-C mirrorless cameras. Building on the reputation of the highly regarded Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Art, this new lens pushes boundaries further by extending the zoom range, improving portability and adding features that support both stills and video shooting.
With a constant maximum aperture of F1.8, the 17-40mm DC Art lens delivers constant brightness throughout the zoom range. Sigma claims the image quality is comparable to that of prime lenses, thanks to an advanced optical design that includes four SLD and four aspherical elements. This results in fine detail, excellent low-light performance and soft bokeh, especially when shooting wide open.
The focal range covers the 35mm equivalent of approximately 25.5-60mm (or 27.2-64mm on Canon RF), making it a wide-angle to short telephoto lens. The lens also benefits from Sigma’s latest High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) for fast and quiet autofocusing. An inner zoom design means the lens doesn’t extend while zooming, aiding stability on gimbals or handheld. Focus breathing has also been minimised, making it a strong choice for video use.
Sigma has designed the lens to be compact and over 30% lighter than its predecessor. It uses a smaller 67mm filter thread and includes two programmable AFL buttons. Video-focused features include a de-clickable aperture ring (except on Canon RF), and a dust- and splash-resistant build enhances its usability outdoors.
This release underlines Sigma’s commitment to APS-C mirrorless systems, supporting L-Mount, Sony E, Fujifilm X and Canon RF mounts. It’s also compatible with Sigma’s USB Dock UD-11 for L-Mount users, enabling further customisation.
The Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC Art lens will be available with the L-Mount, Sony E, Fujifilm X and Canon RF mounts.
